Skin Care

The recommended regime for skin care is 1) Cleansing 2) Moisturizing 3) UV Protection. The pH of the normal skin is 5.5 Most soaps and cleansers are alkaline and have a pH of more than 7. Therefore a pH neutral cleanser of 7 or less should be a rational choice during selection of a cleanser.

Moisturizers attract and seal water in the outer layer of the skin. They are either Oil in Water( O/W) or Water in Oil (W/O). the W/O moisturizers are night time creams for the dry type skin. While the O/W moisturizer is to be used as daytime lotions in normal or slightly oily skin.

Sunscreens contain 2 important components, that gives broad spectrum protection against Ultra Violet Radiation Therefore it is important to ensure that the Sunscreens contains Zinc Oxide and Avobenzone. Fair skin people should use a sunscreen more than SPF 30. While dark skin people will find SPF 15 to give adequate protection. While applying sunscreens the ears, back of the neck, back of the hand, top of the feet , and bald area of the scalp should not be overlooked.

Shampoos contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfates, that are alkaline. Overuse of shampoo can cause the hair cuticle to become rough and dull. This can be reversed by Acid Hair Rinses or Conditioner. Therefore use of shampoo should be restricted to twice weekly, however Sulfate free shampoo or Baby Shampoo does not damage the Hair Cuticle.
