Vitilgo

Vitilgo is depigmentation of the skin due to the destruction of Melanocytes, the epidermal cells which produce melanin pigment. Therefore in dark skin, Vitilgo stands out as prominent “White Patches”.

Vitilgo is mostly present in the Hands Feet, as well as around the Eyes and Mouth. There is a family history in 20% to 30% of patients ,and some patients have associated Thyroid Disorder and Diabetes Mellitus. The treatment of Vitilgo is difficult and prolonged in duration. For small areas Steroid and Tacrolimus Cream is used. For more extensive Vitilgo ,Narrow Band Ulta Violet B Light ( NBUVB 311 TO 313nm )is an option. For stable patches of Vitilgo Epidermal Skin grafting is an option, which gives satisfying results.
